Can I download versions prior to 1.6?

No. Versions before 1.6 do not inlclude an automated installation procedure, and some versions feature special functions only implemented on specific customer's websites. These older versions are stable once set up and are in use on cusomers' websites where I have a full overview of the system, but they are not recommended for third party use on external websites and are therefore not available for public download.
