CAT Energy Monitor

Display system on the Centre for Alternative Technology's visitor circuit

A digital display system designed for use on a plasma screen at the Centre for Alternative Technology's visitor centre in Machynlleth, Mid Wales. The display system allows visitors to interact in real-time with CAT's energy monitoring network, which controls the on-site renewable energy systems and keeps tabs on electricity usage and export of excess power to the grid.

Designed in conjunction with CAT's in-house graphic artist, this project demonstrates how an existing image, style or layout can be used as the basis for a new website or interactive electronic display.

The web-based design of the system allows the display to be accessed anywhere on the CAT computer network so that school groups can use it on day visits and students can view it from classrooms during CAT's weekend courses. The system also features a customised Content Management System, meaning that CAT engineers and staff can configure and update the system easily from any on-site computer.
